delivering the ARIZONA REPUBLIC

What's the Schedule?

The carrier contract for The Arizona Republic is a 365-day per year contract. The paper is published every day of the year, and it will be your responsibiliy to deliver it.

What's a Typical Night Like?

Your night begins with picking up the papers at your assigned Warehouse any time between 12 Midnight and 2:00 AM.

When you arrive, you will pick up your night’s share of newspapers. You may be asked to put the papers into plastic bags, depending on the weather.

Your next step is to load your car with the papers and start your route. You will drive the same route every night. You will have a Route Book, which contains each stop on the route that gets papers, any special instructions for that stop, and driving directions to the next stop. It’s a step-by-step guide that lays out your entire route.

You must be finished with your deliveries by 6:00 AM Monday through Saturday, and 7:00 AM Sunday.

When your delivery is finished, your work is finished for the night. You may go home or anywhere else you want.

How Long Will It Take?

Your nightly load will be between 250 and 300 papers and will take 2 - 4 hours to deliver.

What Do I Need?

To qualify for this contract, you will need:

  • A car, SUV or pickup truck in good condition
  • Proof of insurance. The policy must have you listed as a driver
  • A valid Drivers' License
  • Someone you can name as your substitute, for those nights you are unable to drive

BACKGROUND CHECKS AND DRUG TESTS ARE NOT REQUIRED

What Does It Pay?

Depending on the size of the route, the contract pays between $150 and $500 per week. You will be paid weekly, by check or direct deposit.

Can I Have Help?

Absolutely. You can have someone help you with the deliveries, or cover for you if you're sick or away. They have to have the same qualifications as you do for the contract (car, insurance, etc.)

What Is My Professional Status?

You're going to be an independent  1099 contractor, not an employee of the Arizona Republic. One advantage of this status is that you will be able to deduct gas and car usage on your income taxes.
